Reputation is a way of rating users depending on the quality of their posts. If the administrators have enabled reputation, then the reputation icon will be visible in posts.

Reputation may be positive , negative or neutral . Negative reputation may only be given if the administrator has enabled this. Neutral reputation is only given when the person giving reputation does not meet the criteria set by the administrator to affect someone else's reputation.

Rep power: How much power (points) the use gives when they give reputation.
Rep level: How much reputation points they have received from other users.

The reputation system is completely optional. But, by participating in discussion in our forums you are eligible to receive positive and negative reputation points from other users.

Reputation should be given to people who post meaningful, helpful, and thoughtful posts. Any post that contributes to the thread in a positive way probably deserves positive reputation. This does not mean that you agree with what was said; the point brought up may be completely opposite to what you believe, but it may be a good point nonetheless, and worthy of a pat on the back. Giving positive reputation to someone because they are your friend and deserve to have a few more green dots next to their name probably isn't a good reason to give positive reputation.

Negative reputation should be given if the person is posting something that detracts from the conversation. If the post is rude, inappropriate, breaks forum rules, is not gracious, etc; these are all good reasons to give negative reputation. If you have a personal grudge with someone, their team, etc, is it not appropriate to give them negative reputation for no reason. Giving negative reputation because you don't agree with what was said is not an appropriate use of the reputation system. People are entitled to their own opinions, and just because you don't agree doesn't mean the user was wrong or not contributing to the conversation.

Before you can give reputation, you must first have a minimum of 15 posts. Once you have reached this requirement, you may then give other users reputation by clicking the "star" icon located at the bottom of the relevant post, to the right of the "blog this post" link and to the left of the "Report Post" icon (shaped like a yield/warning/triangle sign).This will reveal a form to complete with the reputation type and the reason for giving the reputation. If negative reputation is disabled then it will not be displayed in this form. You may not give reputation for the same post twice.

You may contact an Admin and provide him or her with the details on which comment you are referring to. If someone leaves you reputation with offensive or inflammatory comments, please report it to a moderator.

That depends on who is doing the clicking. There's a thing called Reputation Power, that is the amount by which others reputation(s) will be changed. For example; I have a Rep Power of 10.
When I click on someone's reputation, I change their reputation amount by 10 points.

Everyone has a Reputation Power as well as a Reputation Level.
Brand new users will start out with a Rep Level of 0 (zero). The only way to change it is by others approving or disapproving and clicking on the Reputation.
Reputation power, on the other hand, changes, as time goes by, as people get to know you, as you post and even as your reputation grows.

That is: for every 365 days, users gain 1 point of reputation-altering power.
For every 1000 posts, users gain 1 point of reputation-altering power.
For every 50 points of reputation, users gain 1 point of reputation-altering power.

There is a 50 post minimum AND a 50 rep minimum before one's rep clicks (or reputation hits) will actually count on others. There's also limits on how often one can give rep to the same person or rep to others, in one day, etc. Patience!

Nobody is going to get anywhere fast with this, and it will work much better than the old Wyrd system. Less like a game and more useful.

You can view the reputation that you have received in your User CP (User Control Panel) where it is displayed at the bottom of the User CP page. Here you will see the latest reputation that you have received and whether this is positive, negative or neutral. Your total reputation will be shown as series of reputation indicators in your posts and profile. The more positive your reputation, the more positive icons will be shown. The more negative your reputation the more negative icons will be shown.

You can disable the display of your reputation by going to your User CP and selecting Edit Options. On this page you will find a check box labelled 'Show Your Reputation Level'. Un-checking this box will remove the display of your reputation and replace it with the Reputation Disabled icon. You can still give and receive reputation while your reputation display is disabled.
