You can lead a student to knowledge, but you can't make them learn.
Every moment of a life is a horrible tragedy, a slapstick comedy, dark nihilism, golden illumination, or nothing at all; depending on how we write the story we tell ourselves.
I'm starting to have doubts about leaving my two comfortable jobs for this new one. I worked there yesterday for a half day, and everything I did yesterday, I was made to redo.
You didn't mop correctly, redo it like this. You didn't pick the straw up in the yard correctly, redo it like this. There is a dog poop hiding back here. We can't ever have dog poop on the ground! Do it like this or else. That dog isn't cold, he's fine. That dog won't listen to you if you do that. Did you lock the gate? You forgot to lock the gate? Go lock the gate! You know, we don't really have time to stop for a snack. A dog can go four hours without food, and so can you. When we're busy, you need to work at a much less leisurely pace. We should all be in a state of panic at all times. We don't have time to talk. Do this.
Sigh.
I have no idea what I'm doing taking care of dogs this way.
Sometimes it's the education system. I tried my best and still failed. Now I'm stuck in the street :P
Can be.
I don't judge without data, though.
The truth is, I work with a lot of kids who blame everybody but themselves for what they do to themselves, so I tend to be biased.
But, yeah, it is sometimes the educational system.

System has its problems, no doubt. But kids and parents need to put in a bit more effoet and stop expecting teachers and schools to magically make their kids learn.

I have never been across the way
Seen the desert and the birds
You cut your hair short
Like a shush to an insult
The world had been yelling
Since the day you were born
Revolting with anger
While it smiled like it was cute
That everything was shit.

A couple weeks ago I picked up a job babysitting for a coworker in the morning. She was pay $500/month for 1 1/2 hours in the morning 5 days a week. I told her I'd watch them for $200 so I could have a little extra $$ and help out a coworker. She countered with $250 and we settled.
When we decided to have my daughter, we didn't think babysitting would be an issue. Both our parents were happy to watch her, the hubby's aunt and grandma have always done babysitting for free for the family, and his aunt was really excited. In the last couple months, my mom moved to Florida, the aunt's husband lost his job, and the grandpa had a heart attack. The aunt had to get a job to cover the difference in pay they lost when the husband had to get a different job and she was our main babysitter. Grandma is busy taking care of grandpa and he can't handle the stress of kids in the house anymore. And my husband's mom works so she watches her whenever she can, but we still need a sitter to fill in. So now I'm paying $300 a month for a sitter and am only making $250 extra... why???
If I get back on swing shift, I may end up exchanging babysitting with the coworker I'm babysitting for instead of having her pay me, but we'll see.
We are what we are. Nothing more, nothing less. There is good and evil among every kind of people. It's the evil among us who rule now. -Anne Bishop, Daughter of the Blood
I wondered if he could ever understand that it was a blessing, not a sin, to be graced with more than one love.
It could be complicated; of course it could be complicated. And it opened one up to the possibility of more pain and loss.
Still, it was a blessing I would never relinquish. Love, genuine love, was always a cause for joy.

Nothing worse than someone who wants something, but pretends they don't. My classmates at least don't make any show of pretending we're friends when they ask me for help in the lab, but these people, oh these people who think I can't tell that I've been selected to deal with their emotional baggage.
Nope, just a molar. But the lidocaine cocktail would not numb me, and my blood pressure just kept going up.
It didn't help that when the dentist tried to stick the needle under my tongue, I put my hands up & went "How 'bout no!"
OMG god girl. What is going on?! I had my wisdom tooth and the molar in front of it pulled in about 6 minutes tops. I waited longer with the numbing shots then the procedure. I was done and eating oatmeal that night.
End of Trimester, reading stacks of stuff, correcting massive piles of papers, and quietly going insane.
I will, however, be better on Saturday!

Add reports to that B. I'm going insane. And nothing is getting done.
