    Re: Help me calm down

I second this. If you have trouble doing it alone or focusing, you can also try a guided meditation. I'm easily distracted and I find them helpful.

My husband got a job! He's going to be a data engineer for an auto parts company in the new year! Basically, it means that he'll be programming tools for data analysis and presentation.

    I also got...

    Re: Stephen Colbert

I love his show. I loved his old satire show, but I think i love him being himself more.

And I loved the interview with Jon Stewart :)

Bumping this thread, because it's good and I miss it!

Confession: I love sappy schlock. There's a genre in Germany called "Heimatfilm"...it's basically super sappy movies set in the Alps, the...

    Re: Kill the missionary?

Yeah, I read a bunch of articles that talked to his family and friends. They're pretty sure that he was doing the right thing. So yeah, I'm not that sorry for them, either.

    Re: Kill the missionary?

I'm sorry he's dead, but I'm also not surprised or shocked, much like i'm not surprised or shocked when people fall off cliffs when they try to take selfies too close to the edge. He knew this tribe...
  10. Re: Is there anything you can do about a late co-worker?

I second this. I'd talk to her about it and let her know that it's disrupting your own schedule. Maybe there's something you can work out together, or maybe there's something you both can work out...

Re: Who's your favorite movie monster?

I'm with you on all of that. I love that as well.

It's there in films as well. Good film uses the same story-telling elements as lit does. Like, some of the older Frankenstein movies (especially...

Re: Anyone going to participate in Nanowrimo?

Every year, I intend to, and every year, I don't. I never manage to get it together. I'm always really impressed by people that manage to do it!

    First, thanks!

Second, yeah...normally bakery bread is better, but the machine I have now is actually pretty close to the real deal. My allergy is -just- wheat so you'd think that I'd be able to...

We bought a new bread machine with some of our wedding money (most people give you money here, and then you can use it for your honeymoon or to buy stuff you need). It was a great choice. It makes...

Gahhhh trying to get my fiance to plan in advance is like pulling teeth.

He's one of those people who thinks its acceptable to RSVP to a wedding a week in advance (or less, ugh). I'm going away...

    Re: Yulin Is Barbaric

In Canada, we call "Canadian Bacon" "Back Bacon." I think this might also be true for other English-speaking countries. It also only looks round like that when it's trimmed. You can buy it untrimmed...

A lot of people are, but it's hard to catch culprits. Fish fraud is especially rampant, for example. In most cases of fish fraud, the fish comes from overseas and is processed overseas. On our side...

My aunt and uncle used to keep chickens. We used to eat them, too. Usually just for holidays.

    Re: Yulin Is Barbaric

I do agree with this. However, animal cruelty in China extends far beyond this practice. Far, far beyond. I think we'd find a lot of standards in things like raising livestock and testing on animals...

I'm not really cool with how the dogs are slaughtered. Then again, animal welfare in China is a HUGE problem, so it's sort of a whole other issue. They're not exactly big on raising their livestock...

I mostly think of horses as pets, too. I used to ride, so it was a bit strange. But I wanted to try it.

Pretty much. I mean, most Canadians I know are horrified by the idea of eating rabbits, but here in Europe, it's a fairly normal meat. Not an everyday meat (it's kind of expensive), but it's...
