Independantly Studying ritual practices within the pagan community

    Greetings everyone,

I am currently doing an independent study on occult ritual trends across multiple disciplines. In order to do so I have created a survey for practitioners of occultism and spiritual mysticism. I hope to gain a higher understanding of how people of diverse backgrounds practice ritual. I am attempting to get a large sample, so I would love it if anyone interested would participate in and share this survey anyone you know who practices occultism and spiritual mysticism.

The questionnaire can be found here: Link removed by mod

I am doing this type of research for a higher perspective on the understanding of my own practices; I would also like to give the community a resource they can reflect on as well. I hope to gain a better understanding of my own ritual practices by looking at the community as a whole, albeit through the lens of a small sample. I consider myself an occultist who is has been inspired by Eliphas Levi, Aleister Crowley, and Israel Regardie just to name a select few. This study is done in the spirit of Scientific Illuminism.

I do not represent anyone other than myself, and I have no intentions of publishing my findings. I also understand that there might be some of you who are uncomfortable with the nature or design of the survey, which is why this is a completely voluntary questionnaire and I don't collect any private information. Thank you to all of you who are willing to participate!

Thanks MaskedOne for posting the link back up. I appreciate anyone who participates in the questionnaire, which is pretty fun to fill out BTW. Once I get enough people's answers I will post a run down of the results.

No prob. I had it available and posting it myself guarantees that it doesn't run afoul of the site's filters regarding links from new members.

I did it, it was fun

I hope you stick to your word that this won't be sold to any marketing schemes or prying agencies. If so, all the best.

Thanks for participating! as soon as I can get enough people to do the same I will analyze the data and post the results. This project is a labor of will and love, and I believe communities like this one should have access to these results.

Re: Independantly Studying ritual practices within the pagan community

I'm interested in doing your survey, but there is an issue. In the part where you select any mainstream religions you have been apart of, you are only able to pick one religion. This is problematic for people raised in multi-faith families, or even just people who've changed religions more than once throughout their lives. Is it possible if you could please change survey so one is able to pick multiple faiths?
Thank you! I'd love to participate, but I need to able to check more than one of the boxes.

Having the option to pick multiple faiths would be good. For now, I typed my two in 'other' options.

Using the other box if your choice is not available is the way to go. I appreciate your understanding and patience regarding those who may not see their particular practice, discipline, or denomination properly represented. I assure you that I am considering every error regarding question design.

I'm using this data collection process as an opportunity to see how different microcosms within the occultism and spiritual mysticism community behave. I have been working hard to give access to this survey both in RL venues and online. As I look through these boards I have to admit that this forum, The Pagan Forum, is very welcoming and kind to each other and newbies alike. I look forward to taking off my researcher hat and taking part in some of the discussions here as well as sharing a bit about myself.

Thanks Nightingale! I am nearing the end of the data collection. I just need a few more participants and I can start looking at all the answers! For those who haven't taken it please consider doing so. Then I will be able to post my findings.

Did it! At one point I had to look at the follow-up question first and then change my previous answer, as I never really considered alcohol to be a psychoactive substance.

I imagine this survey has inspired many people to self reflect while filling out the questions. Part of the magick of this study is moving a quantifiable amount of people to look within and focus on their beliefs and practices. Thank you for filling it out. just a couple more applicants to go!
