I have known people like that. Caring for animals is sometimes hard to do. I have always had dogs and they require a specific order in their lives or they become neurotic. It is important to always remember that they are members of the pack and not family. I still always get attached to them and always grieve when they die.

I think that grieving for animals is a good thing. Not the grief itself, but the fact that someone experiences it. It shows that they have compassion.

We love our animals. That is our nature (or should be) but I also understand dogs and horses to a great degree. They are loyal if they trust you as the alpha. If they don't they will challenge you for the position. I have wrestled an aggressive dog to its back and held it pinned by the neck until it submitted before. Not something I enjoy but after that the dog was very well behaved. It would do anything for me and I had a higher position in its "pack" than the owner did. I have taught people how to be what there dog needs instead of being what they want the dog to be.
I love animals and they have my highest respect. People who "own" animals without understanding them do not always get my respect.

    Re: Little Cassidy Kitten Updates!

Not a whole lot of stuff to report, really, but I did discover a couple of pretty awesome things. It turns out that there was an article posted in a Netherlands news site regarding Cassidy, and an article on People.Com pets section as well! This guy has brought Shelly and her TinyKittens organization into national and international visibility. The thing is, when it all comes down to it, it's not just about a handicapped kitty.

People have discussed how her efforts have taught them about compassion, care for those less fortunate, and have been aids for classrooms. It has also been stated that by simply watching the kittens at play, they've helped with PTSD, depression, and in the case of Cassidy, hope. So it's not just about adorable kits. It's about life and love.

Also, supposedly Cass is going to be neutered this week, which is awesome. It means that not only has he gained enough weight and is healthy enough for it, but yet again he's bucked against the initial diagnosis of having developmental issues! Cassidy, you rock!

So it appears that this tiny little guy has gotten his paws into everyone's pies out there, and he's becoming quite the celebrity! Beyond what I mentioned about the Netherlands and People.Com the other day, things have exploded! From Buzzfeed to ABC to CNN to a huge popularity in Russia (a livestream viewer mentioned that Cass is all over the news there, and cats are the most popular pets in the country), he's taking the world by storm in his new wheelchair. There's also been a number of viewers who have all sent in requests that the story be picked up on The Ellen Show.

Time once again to annoy you all with yet another post about this kitten! Today, he was neutered, and also had a visit with a veterinary specialist about his back legs. The right one is basically as it should be, sans foot of course. The left, on the other hand, is a bit of a problem. The quad muscle there is in spasm, and has been pulling the knee and hip joints in directions that they shouldn't really go in while the corresponding hind muscle is weak and underdeveloped, causing hyper-extension.. Luckily, the doc said that it's still early enough that surgery isn't needed at this time to fix it. Shelly will have to do some physical therapy at least three times a day to strengthen one muscle, loosen the other, and to get Cassidy used to being able to keep the leg in a more natural position.

He's doing well with it already. Also, she has hooked up with a local 4th grade class and has been working with the teacher there to incorporate her Tiny Kittens charity into their curriculum.

Shelly does work with the local kids sometimes and the kittens get followed by schoolchildren so they can learn it's why she live streams the births and bet visits and other stuff! She'll and tiny kittens is amazing, so is wee Cassidy!

    Re: Little Cassidy Kitten Updates!

Been a few days since I gave an update, since there really wasn't much to report on. His back legs are still causing a few issues, as the therapy, while doing some good, is tough to reinforce since they don't have a brace to keep them bent in the right direction when he's on his own. Plus, he likes to scoop around more than try to use his stumps. On the upside, he's had a lot of company lately. It's time for the other kittens in the house to be spayed and neutered, so when they are recovering, they have been spending time in Cassidy's room. It's all going well, and tonight the momma cat, Tip, may be sleeping over with Cass as she is recovering from her spaying.

All in all, he's gotten more playful and active then ever before.

This little guy can't get a break. After a checkup, it was discovered that his other leg was also starting to be pulled in the wrong direction by muscle spasms and such, and that both stumplets have become inflamed. But still he's got great spirits. Also, his brother Topper was adopted yesterday.

    Re: Little Cassidy Kitten Updates!

He's been spending more and more time with Shelly's cats, learning valuable lessons in "cat-iquette" and just enjoying all the time spent with other animals. Unfortunately, the other 12 kittens she's caring for now are just way too rough and rambunctious for the little guy to play with safely.

With a little ingenious planning, he now has some splints made up of cardboard, cloth, and little socks to keep his legs straight, and for the first time ever he stood on all fours! He did so for a good period of time, while he was having a bit of a snack, easily keeping his balance without any wobbling or visible strain. Also, he may be starting a little water therapy to help get his back legs moving and exercised.
