What to do with feral cats in winter

Me being intentionally controversial yet again...

Seven Ways To Help Stray Or Feral Cats Survive The Winter

But I can't help it - I have a soft heart, and it isn't their fault they got dumped.

I already bring in deer, bear and elk to warm them up, (the grill works very well) but I see no reason to step in where nature is selecting the hardiest to survive.

Very impressive! You are a hugely manly-man!

Re: What to do with feral cats in winter

I had a page come up in my Facebook (because I follow a whole bunch of TNR and feral rescue pages) about making easy and cheap shelters out of those plastic totes. http://alleycatadvocates.org/communi...nter-shelters/
"The streams called Ice-waves, those which were so long come from the fountain-heads that the yeasty venom upon them had hardened like the slag that runs out of the fire, - these then became ice; and when the ice halted and ceased to run, then it froze over above. But the drizzling rain that rose from the venom congealed to rime, and the rime increased, frost over frost, each over the other, even into Ginnungagap, the Yawning Void. Ginnungagap, which faced toward the northern quarter, became filled with heaviness, and masses of ice and rime, and from within, drizzling rain and gusts; but the southern part of the Yawning Void was lighted by those sparks and glowing masses which flew out of Múspellheim. Just as cold arose out of Niflheim, and all terrible things, so also all that looked toward Múspellheim became hot and glowing; but Ginnungagap was as mild as windless air, and when the breath of heat met the rime, so that it melted and dripped, life was quickened from the yeast-drops, by the power of that which sent the heat, and became a man's form. And that man is named Ymir, but the Rime-Giants call him Aurgelimir" - The Gylfaginning

When Old Mr. Jenkins was around, we made a safe, warm space in the garage for him until we figured he was too old to survive another Michigan winter, then we brought him into the house.

Generally, we leave the garage door open a bit as a critter shelter (we don't keep cars in the garage) in the winter.

Maybe what you are doing is appropriate for the US but down here feral cats are, plain and simply, a scourge on the native wildlife.
I am proud to have personally reduced the population through a .22
The number of species they are driving to the edge of extinction here is appalling. We would be far better off if people were aloud to breed and keep Quolls as pets. They hunt mice and smaller rats and are native

    *sighs* Stupid government.

My other pet hate is the Damned foxes. At leas you can eat Rabbit. Fox and cat .... lets just say not for me.

    Nope - they're a "scourge" here, too.

But some of us don't much care.

I agree it's not their fault they got dumped and bred more. The people who do so should be shot. As a lifelong birder, I do what I can to keep them off my property. (cats AND people LOL)

Can you hear me, Major Tom? I think I love you.

Haha! There's no controversy at all. You do what you want on your property and I'll do what I want on mine.
