Got the boy six for Yule/Christmas. Cutest little things. We can't have roosters so we will have to wait and see.

Chicks are adorable."Turn, and look in the mirror. What do you see?" Her own brown eyes stared back at her until she was nothing but a blur.
"I see you. Red lipstick spread perfectly over your lush mouth, brown eyes that hold centuries upon centuries of secrets. A face made to entice even the most celibate of men and women alike. A red dress that sways and moves with your body, making you a temptation like no other."

I wish I could keep some, but the other inhabitants of my apartment block would probably prefer to keep the back lawn.

Re: We have chickens
My Dad has chickens that are my "nephews". Everyday come rain or shine if my nephew is at Papa's house he goes and feeds his chickens and collects their eggs. We are never on short supply of eggs. I love fresh eggs. I can't say I personally want a chicken coup but I have no problem buying fresh eggs from someone. My Dad takes a large amount of them to a low income senior citizen housing development once a week and sells a dozen eggs for a dollar to anyone who wants them. He then puts the money in a saving account for my nephew."If you want to know what a man is like, take a good look at how he treats his inferiors, not his equals." -- Sirius Black

Re: We have chickens
I had chickens as a kid and really miss having them. Then I ended up rescuing two ducklings... so now we have fresh duck eggs and two of the sweetest, most loving ducks you can imagine.
I don't think we'll do ducks AND chooks until we have a larger property, but I would recommend backyard chooks to anyone. Except if you need to keep your lawn pristine. Ducks don't ruin the lawn badly though, unless you have them on the same patch 24/7.

But don't mix geese with smaller birds (you can have one, to act as "mother") because they tend to trample smaller birds with their big flappy feet.
P.S. I prefer duck eggs to chicken eggsEvery moment of a life is a horrible tragedy, a slapstick comedy, dark nihilism, golden illumination, or nothing at all; depending on how we write the story we tell ourselves.
