Marine Bronze Star recipient attacked by kids saying If He thought black lives matter

Marine Bronze Star recipient from iconic Fallujah photo attacked at a D.C. McDonald's

“The kids were asking me if I think that black lives mattered,” Marquez said on Monday. “I was ignoring them, just because I felt intimidated. I felt how they approached me, it was very hostile. I felt they were really trying to intimidate me and just trying to start a confrontation with me.”

Thing about this is,these kids(teens) should not have used that phrase "black lives matter" while robbing this guy,Black lives matter should chastise them because it puts BLM in a VERY bad light. And this after one of their own committed suicide and it makes them seem unstable.

The fact the the person attacked was an ex marine and decorated with a Bronze Star for saving another Marine makes this fodder for right wing racists as well.

How does this effect you in your world view concerning racial hatred?

It doesn't affect my view of it except to reinforce my view that people are, always were and always will be a-holes looking to cause strife.

I think people just are. They are one species. It will be a rude comparison, probably, but I'll make it anyway. Regardless of the physical differences, a house cat in Asia, is no different than a house cat in South America. A dog in North America is no different than a dog in Europe (regardless of its kind). A dog is a dog and a cat is a cat. Same goes for any other living creature. Of course they have different structures, colours and sizes. Same with humans - black, white, yellow, green - doesn't matter. All of them are humans. So I think "black" lives matter just as much as any other "non-black" life. Sorry for the comparison - it was the only way I could describe it.
"Fair means that everybody gets what they need. And the only way to get that is to make it happen yourself."

Since I adore cats, I might write something strange or unusual in my comment.Cats are awesome!!! ^_^

It doesn't affect my view of the Black Lives Matter movement. Some dudes uttering a phrase during a bad deed do not represent a movement. The right wingers use it to smear a movement because it's either to smear an entire movement with one bad act than acknowledge the problem that caused the movement to begin with.

Liberals are equally guilty of this.

“We still carry this primal relationship to the Earth within our consciousness, even if we have long forgotten it. It is a primal recognition of the wonder, beauty, and divine nature of the Earth. It is a felt reverence for all that exists. Once we bring this foundational quality into our consciousness, we will be able to respond to our present man-made crisis from a place of balance, in which our actions will be grounded in an attitude of respect for all of life. This is the nature of real sustainability.”

All people die. Some violently, some alone, some peacefully. Black lives are no different than any other life. That phrase is used to separate people to keep them busy so they miss the real evil being done.

    No, it's not.

Don't claim to respect equality or individual achievements when you can't even acknowledge that there's a problem. The real "evil" being done is people that can't wrap their heads around the idea that black lives (finally) mattering doesn't negate the fact that white lives have always mattered. Complaining when another group finally asks for the same rights that you already enjoy, implicitly or explicitly, civil or societal, is the real "evil" in this conversation.

That phrase is used because the status quo--that "all lives" (should) matter means, in reality, that black lives don't (and to a lesser extent, the lives of most other minorities). Yes, it should rankle--the very fact that you think "oh, how dare they think their own lives should matter" should be a clue to your own bias.

They've been living in a world where "all lives matter" for decades and the reality of "all lives" is that black men have a higher chance of being shot by police; black people are more likely to be arrested for dealing drugs even though white people are more likely to be dealing them AND even though whites and blacks use drugs at the same rate, white people are less likely to get arrested or go to jail, black people are more likely to be arrested period, black drivers get pulled over simply for driving while being black; NYC's stop and frisk is blatantly racist (and the idea that it "is working" is highly debatable when crime is declining anyhow); are offered plea deals with prison sentances more often than whites, have cases dismissed more often than whites (due to lack of evidence), are less likely to recieve reduced charges, and are more likely to be jailed before trial (because bail is generally higher for black defendants than white defendands accused of the same crime, though a jacked up system all together); are extremely underrepresented as elected prosecutors; more likely to recieve the death penalty; black children with the same level of reported pain for the same condition get prescribed pain medication less than white children; women and blacks (and especially black women) are less likely to offered cardiac catheterization; black patients recieve worse care than their white counterparts in general (because racial bias makes us ignore pain), and this follows on with preventive care; black children are more likely to be suspended or expelled from schools--even preschoolers and race plays a huge role in how teachers judge misbehavior and they have less access to advanced coursework being offered in their schools; potential black jurors are twice as likely to be removed from being a potential jury member; people (not just cops) are more likely to shoot quicker at a black person "target" than a white one; black children are more likely to be tried as adults; 'white' names are morely likely to get an interview for identical qualifications over a 'black' name (politicians are similarly less likely to respond to constitiuents with "black" names); black people are charged more when buying a car; prospective black home buyers are shown less home, even when adjusted for income, etc (which is a main component of the racial wealth gap); black families are less likely to move up the socioeconomic ladder than their parents in comparison to white families; its harder for black people to get campaign funding to run for office; black parents are less likely to work standard hours, which affect their children and their children's education; black employees recieve harder scruitny than white employees; white people riot too, but black people get the short end of the stick in their portrayl by the media and their treatment by police; white people have less black friends than black people have white friends; whitewashing in film (try "every single workd spoken by a person of color" on youtube--Noah was particularly telling); white men with a record are more likely to be offered a job than black men without one...

I could go on, but its really effing depressing.

Racism is often it is unconscious on an individual level. But on an insititutional level, it is a serious miscarriage of the justice we claim, as Americans, to believe in. Generations of slavery and discrimination have created an economic underclass that is mostly composed of minorities and has burdened them with conditions that would be difficult enough to get out of if it were just a matter of poverty. This country's default is white, male entitilement. If one can't examine their own bias and work to change it, then they are part of the makers of that travesty.

Please tell us more about being black as I'm sure you are an expert.

Also, isn't it funny how white people suddenly care about racism when some black guys do something or one of their precious veterans(as the clickbait title makes sure to tell us)?
