^I add the soap because it acts as an emulsifying agent and mixes in the oils throughout the mixture.
“You have never answered but you did not need to. If I stand at the ocean I can hear you with your thousand voices. Sometimes you shout, hilarious laughter that taunts all questions. Other nights you are silent as death, a mirror in which the stars show themselves. Then I think you want to tell me something, but you never do. Of course I know I have written letters to no-one. But what if I find a trident tomorrow?" ~~Letters to Poseidon, Cees Nooteboom

“We still carry this primal relationship to the Earth within our consciousness, even if we have long forgotten it. It is a primal recognition of the wonder, beauty, and divine nature of the Earth. It is a felt reverence for all that exists. Once we bring this foundational quality into our consciousness, we will be able to respond to our present man-made crisis from a place of balance, in which our actions will be grounded in an attitude of respect for all of life. This is the nature of real sustainability.”
    ~~Llewellyn Vaughan-Lee

Would any sort of soap do? Like dishwashing liquid?

Absolutely. I've used Ivory and Dawn in a pinch, but mainly I use Dr Bonner's.

*bookmarks* I have to show my mum this page. I hear ash mixed with water is a good jewlery cleaner, I haven't tried myself yet though.

That reminds me, if you dye your hair and get a stain on your skin, get your finger wet with saliva, dip it in some ash (if anybody in the house smokes an ashtray works well), and rub it on the stain. Leave it for about ten minutes and scrub it off; the stain will be gone. Apparently this is an old theater trick but I've tried it myself several times and it works wonders.

Oh excellent! I thought it had to be that specific soap, which is why I didn't add it :P Reading comprehension fail!

I'll have to try that ash thing. I dye my hair all the time, and for a few weeks afterwards, Teh colour runs when I shower and stains my ears. Would be good not looking like a smurf ;D

Here are a few that I've just found:

(not all of them are necessarily "natural", but they are all DIY versions of commercial products)

    reusable drier sheets
    Magic Eraser
    Lemon air freshener
    wrinkle release spray
    swiffer covers

I have a vinegar testimonial to share.

I used to work in an optical lab where I operated a series of machines that put coating on lenses. This was done by a process that turned hard substances into vapor, so it got pretty damn hot in there, obviously. A few squirts of vinegar and all that caked on crud came off like it does in the CLR commercials.

Ash (hard wood or dried leaf) + Water (left to sit) = Lye

That's why it cleans so good.

Here is a stick to beat the nice troll with ...
I won't be wronged. I won't be insulted. I won't be laid a-hand on. I don't do these things to other people, and I require the same from them ... John Bernard Books

Indian Chief 'Two Eagles' was asked by a white government official; "You have observed the white man for 90 years. You've seen his wars and his technological advances. You've seen his progress, and the damage he's done."

    The Chief nodded in agreement.

The official continued; "Considering all these events, in your opinion, where did the white man go wrong?"

The Chief stared at the government official for over a minute and then calmly replied.. "When white man find land, Indians running it, no taxes, no debt, plenty buffalo, plenty beaver, clean water. Women did all the work, Medicine Man free. Indian man spend all day hunting and fishing; all night having sex."

Then the chief leaned back and smiled; "Only white man dumb enough to think he could improve system like that."
