Yes, I think we are working with the same general idea. I'm just more confident speaking from the doula terminology than the psychopomp because I suspect what I know about the shamanic definitions just scratches the surface. I am sure that in many spiritual circumstances, the shaman or psychopomp would approach or cross over the veil, and this would be their role because they know the way and have the agility to move back and forth.
