    Re: Go Harriet Tubman!

    A) it's about time a female showed up on cash

    B) it's about time ant-slavery heroes were shown public respect

    C) if a face on a bill that a regular person is going to touch has to be replaced to acomplish A and B, that face should be Jackson

This summary constitutes my total feelings in this evolving debate.
Every moment of a life is a horrible tragedy, a slapstick comedy, dark nihilism, golden illumination, or nothing at all; depending on how we write the story we tell ourselves.

You mean in addition to Susan B. Anthony, Sacajawea, and Lincoln. No respect for coins these days.
Trust is knowing someone or something well enough to have a good idea of their motivations and character, for good or for ill. People often say trust when they mean faith.

I read some pretty extreme reactions to this. A lot of white people complain about the destruction of their history.

I hope they send their twenties to me in protest.

Seems that you are engaging in selective reading. Pointless to respond to that form of thinking.

I'm just pointing out how none of the reasons for getting rid of Jackson and/or bringing in Tubman are without precedent.

Coins are only cash in the same way that checks are paper money.
“You have never answered but you did not need to. If I stand at the ocean I can hear you with your thousand voices. Sometimes you shout, hilarious laughter that taunts all questions. Other nights you are silent as death, a mirror in which the stars show themselves. Then I think you want to tell me something, but you never do. Of course I know I have written letters to no-one. But what if I find a trident tomorrow?" ~~Letters to Poseidon, Cees Nooteboom

“We still carry this primal relationship to the Earth within our consciousness, even if we have long forgotten it. It is a primal recognition of the wonder, beauty, and divine nature of the Earth. It is a felt reverence for all that exists. Once we bring this foundational quality into our consciousness, we will be able to respond to our present man-made crisis from a place of balance, in which our actions will be grounded in an attitude of respect for all of life. This is the nature of real sustainability.”

Must remember people did not always LIKE paper money, and in the way way back, paper money was issued by different banks, not the Gov..why we have the term "HARD CASH" for gold or silver.

As someone who often uses vending machines, I still greatly prefer coins to bills.

edit: and see dollar coins regularly.

                        Re: Go Harriet Tubman!

Only time I see dollar coins is when I got a roll of them for tooth fairy money or use the metro. Otherwise, I use cash maybe 4-5 times a month, tops. And where I work, vending machines take cards.

                          Re: Go Harriet Tubman!

I think I got more $1 coins out of rolls of quarters than I have from the stores. Which is why I think they are so despised, they are nearly the same size as a quarter and easily mistaken for one. The Susan B. Anthony's were not much better even with them being 11 sided within the image if I recall correctly. Again passed as quarters which caused confusion due to their size.

So it seems it's not an issue of women being on money, especially coins, but an issue of the size of the coin. When it's easily confused for a quarter due to size that's not a good thing and results in the negative acceptance of them.

Personally I think Harriet Tubman was a poor choice as I think there are women who are more deserving and more relevant to today such as Rosa Parks.

She only recently died (2005 - seems recent to us old farts ) , so she may be considered too recent.
