Honestly, I'd rather that we just mandate that people read the Cornerstone speech and several of the letters of secession in US History courses. The Civil War and the lead up to it don't get nearly enough attention in public schools and the leaders of the CSA are perfectly capable of condemning themselves and everything they stood for. They should be handed that opportunity on a silver platter.
Knowing the South reputation of the history the Confederate flag, they're not going to ban that flag anytime soon.

The ability to destroy a planet is insignificant compared to the power of the Force.

And in most places, the First Amendment rightfully protects the various Confed flags. You don't need to ban a thing to significantly diminish its popularity.
"It is not simply enough to know the light…a Jedi must feel the tension between the two sides of the Force…in himself and in the universe."
    ―Thon

"When to the Force you truly give yourself, all you do expresses the truth of who you are,"

    Yoda

Yoda told stories, and ate, and cried, and laughed: and the Padawans saw that life itself was a lightsaber in his hands; even in the face of treachery and death and hopes gone cold, he burned like a candle in the darkness. Like a star shining in the black eternity of space.

    Yoda: Dark Rendezvous

"But those men who know anything at all about the Light also know that there is a fierceness to its power, like the bare sword of the law, or the white burning of the sun." Suddenly his voice sounded to Will very strong, and very Welsh. "At the very heart, that is. Other things, like humanity, and mercy, and charity, that most good men hold more precious than all else, they do not come first for the Light. Oh, sometimes they are there; often, indeed. But in the very long run the concern of you people is with the absolute good, ahead of all else..."

John Rowlands, The Grey King by Susan Cooper

"You come from the Lord Adam and the Lady Eve", said Aslan. "And that is both honour enough to erect the head of the poorest beggar, and shame enough to bow the shoulders of the greatest emperor on earth; be content."

Aslan, Prince Caspian by CS Lewis

The latest: School will be in session tomorrow, but the group that was going to come and demostrate in support of the LGBTQ students isn't coming. They posted this:

"GLSEN Springfield will not be rescheduling our planned Show Of Support for the students at West Plains High School. We are deeply saddened about the situation that has unfolded. GLSEN planned to stand in front of West Plains High School with signs of support for the LGBTQ+ and Black students, however, after threats of violence we have decided what is best for all students in West Plains is to remove our involvment in an attempt to de escalate the situation.

We wish to send our most sincere thoughts to the students who were harassed and intimidated because of their identities. You are loved, you valuable. Please reach out to GLSEN Springfield at springfield@chapters.glsen.org if you need resources."

Can you hear me, Major Tom? I think I love you.

The SCOTUS Tinker ruling protects student free speech in schools UNLESS such speech is slanderous/libelous, or materially and substantially disruptive.

A school could ban the confederate flag, but if anybody is willing to do the legal wrork, such a ban would be overturned...

...unless the flag is "hate speech."

I'd be interested to see how such a suite would turn out, but the outcome isn't entirely clear.

Those who have suffered understand suffering and therefore extend their hand.

I can't do everything, but I can do something.
