Well if the sun does become a red giant in about 5 billion years, I'd say that's about when the end of Earth will come.

When I was little, 7 or 8, I read a book about stars and it foretold of our sun eventually ending. I misunderstood the part about how far in the future this would be, and I thought I was the only person who knew about it. I was depressed and anxious for days and didn't want to tell my parents. I'd cry at sunset every day. Finally, I told them. Yeah, it's funny now, but I was seriously traumatized!
