    Do you write Easter Cards?

    Do you write Easter Cards?

Before you say "No!" - please remember that Easter is also a pagan spring festival.

Some years I've sent a few out in return to people who sent them to me. But it's not really a big thing. When I was a kid it was, though.

Can you hear me, Major Tom? I think I love you.

Pagan is a very broad term we don't all celebrate the same holidays. But personally no, I don't. We have other culturally based traditions here I observed when my grandparents were alive though.

Just a heads up, the forum isn't very active. Give it a few days for people to see a new post.

I send food and flowers and ask (every year, and every year everyone says no) if they want some fertilized multicolor eggs.

    Does that count?

Re: Do you write Easter Cards?

Easter is one of a vast number of holidays that I spend my day exerting entirely too much effort not asking locusts in human skin suits customers if they don't have anything better to do than wreck the store I work at. Like most other holidays, I'm generally not in a celebratory mood when it rolls around.
"It is not simply enough to know the light…a Jedi must feel the tension between the two sides of the Force…in himself and in the universe."
    ―Thon

"When to the Force you truly give yourself, all you do expresses the truth of who you are,"

    Yoda

Yoda told stories, and ate, and cried, and laughed: and the Padawans saw that life itself was a lightsaber in his hands; even in the face of treachery and death and hopes gone cold, he burned like a candle in the darkness. Like a star shining in the black eternity of space.

    Yoda: Dark Rendezvous

"But those men who know anything at all about the Light also know that there is a fierceness to its power, like the bare sword of the law, or the white burning of the sun." Suddenly his voice sounded to Will very strong, and very Welsh. "At the very heart, that is. Other things, like humanity, and mercy, and charity, that most good men hold more precious than all else, they do not come first for the Light. Oh, sometimes they are there; often, indeed. But in the very long run the concern of you people is with the absolute good, ahead of all else..."

John Rowlands, The Grey King by Susan Cooper

"You come from the Lord Adam and the Lady Eve", said Aslan. "And that is both honour enough to erect the head of the poorest beggar, and shame enough to bow the shoulders of the greatest emperor on earth; be content."

Aslan, Prince Caspian by CS Lewis

Just a heads up, few things make people want to respond less than this kind of thing.

I don't celebrate Easter, it's a Christian holiday. Sure you can call it a pagan spring festival all up and down, but the actual evidence for that is kind of nebulous. When we're establishing pagan traditions on the basis of ethnolinguistics and have next to no clue about the actual practices, I don't feel it's fair to "reclaim" it. Ostara is good enough, and I don't send cards for that either. The wheel of the year is mostly a modern construct and modern pagan practice has very little in common with whatever ancient pagan spring festival preceded Easter.
“They moaned and squealed, and pressed their snouts to the earth. We are sorry, we are sorry.
Sorry you were caught, I said. Sorry that you thought I was weak, but you were wrong.”
