i read through the new terms. I really don't see where they got this idea from. Unless you're running a pyramid scheme, doing the readings in the nude, or using them to spew hate or make contact with minors, there's nothing in there that would indicate that that's true.

China is a rival power. Badmouthing the US sort of comes with the territory. That said, they aren't going all in on their support of Russia (yet) from the handful of articles I've seen. I won't say words are meaningless but China throwing snark is neither unexpected nor particularly dangerous. China not throwing its diplomatic and economic strength into an effort to get Russian troops withdrawn from Ukraine is a problem but I'm pretty sure that it's an expected problem.

I also think that from what I heard Russia wants to bring back the Soviet Union. Now the Soviet Union was dissolved for a damn reason. Let's not bring that back. Russia needs to back off of Ukraine. I'm afraid we might have a World War III. The news said this is the first European war since War World II. Oh goodness, why now!

important distinction here. This is putin. The people of Russia in general are not for this. But Putin has spent the last decade making it pretty clear he wants the glory of the past back. No one is actually all that surprised.
As for Chernobyl. Russia already has nuclear power enough. What I've heard from people who know more than me is that it's more a matter of strategy. The area is big and open, good for moving large troops through, and already has established infrastructure and roads to Kiev.

That being said, yea it's terrifying. But take the breaking news with a grain of salt. It's bad. It's not comic book villain exploding the world bad quite yet. There's always a war. This one is just uncomfortably close.

As for why now? The western world is destabilized both from covid and more concious efforts. Trump was an attempt. Brexit had meddling too. It seems the hope is we'll be too busy bickering and licking our own wounds to present a united front and he'll get away with it without too much fuss. Now is the perfect time cause we're all tired.
