    Milk Bag Mats

I have been asked to help collect and organize milk bags for making mats for children and adults in Haiti.
Once I looked into it, I decided to make one myself.
The bags are cut into strips then croched , and I love to crochet!

    Anyone else heard of these?

Hmm. I'm afraid that I don't even know what a Milk Bag is. Could you tell us a little bit more about this process? It does sound like fun.

Also, off topic. But yay! You got your Avatar to stick.

That is way cool! I like that idea and it's very practical, too. Good find!

          Ah! PLARN!!

          (Plastic+Yarn=plarn)

We don't have milk in bags here...I make it out of shopping bags and use it for kitchen scrubbies and reusable shopping bags. Heck, I even blogged about it. Its a bit of a PITA to make--easy, but time consuming, best done during an NCIS (or other fave tv show) marathon.

If you are on ravelry Celeste, there are a couple of recycling groups that have tons of info on plarn and other recycled "yarns" like t-yarn (t-shirt yarn), yarn from wiring, yarn from old jeans, how to recycle yarn from old sweaters, even yarn from newspaper. Some of them might even be interested in donating their plarn, if it can be from other sources.

I think I will re-join ravelry, I have long lost my log-in and password.

I am surprised that you don't have milk bags there...only jugs?

this is fun, I wish I had more time off to do this stuff

Ahhhh yeah I think they only have milk bags in Canada, and they're not widely used on the west coast (we do jugs and cartons).

You can use plastic shopping bags as well!
