        Re: Tarot Decks

I'm at about 80 decks and counting, and then there are all the oracle decks I've collected as well. Yes, I've used most of them, although some are purely collector's items. I'd make a list.... but I'm lazy at the moment. I tend to stick with RWS based decks, as pip (non illustrated minors) cards don't appeal to me.

ETA: Here is a list of my tarot decks. I was wrong, there are only 53 right now.

        Abracadabra
        Ancestral Path
        Ancient Egyptian
        Animals Divine
        Archeon
        Arthurian (Hallowquest)
        Bohemian Gothic
        Book of Kaos
        Celtic Tarot (Davis & Paterson)

                    Re: Tarot Decks

I was talking with one of my Pagan friends about Tarot decks, and learned that making your own Tarot cards makes them better/more in tune with you, something like that. Is there any truth to this, and if so, has anyone ever made their own deck?
I've already started on making one; all I have to work with are index cards and colored pencils. Since it's the last one I remember from my Tarot reading yesterday, the first card I've made is the King of Swords, its name depicted with my own adaptation of Anglo-Saxon runes. I'd upload a pic, but I have no scanner nor camera.

                        Re: Tarot Decks

I made a deck once called the Pet Tarot. It was a collaboration between a friend and I. We had illustrated majors, but pip card minors. It was featured in one of the Tarot Lovers Calendars, but I can't remember which year.

I think learning the symbolism and then interpreting it in your own way is a great way to learn an individual card. Aeclectic tarot used to do a collaborative deck each year. The cards are probably still up someplace. ETA: Here's the link http://www.aeclectic.net/tarot/project/ I did the Magician for year two and Page of Pentacles and 7 of Cups for year three.

If you're just re-drawing each card as you've seen it somewhere else, not so much. For that type of thing, there is a color your own version of the tarot available.

I'm hyperventillating I'm so excited! The Mary-El Tarot is FINALLY released!!!!!!!!

The Internet's #1 source of popular, imported, and collectible tarot and Lenormand decks

I just placed my order. I don't know how many other collectors are hanging around, but this one has been in process for at least 10 years or so and I've been anxiously awaiting it since I saw the first card.

                          Happy Tarotist... is happy.

Update on the Mary-El. While, I'm in love with this deck.... I can't say I'd recommend it unless you're looking for a study tool. This deck is completely different from anything I've worked with before. The minors are beautiful, but so far out of the norm for me, it's going to take a while to understand them. Thank goodness there is a book! Also, the card stock on this one is rather thin. I've already got some edge wear and I only glanced through it once last night.

This will probably be a study / art / collector deck for me. I'm terrified to shuffle them. But, that is a-okay with me. They are GORGEOUS and HUGE!
