    neuropathic pain relievers

A friend of mine has a chronic pain condition and is in pain management. He is on morphine at the moment. He also uses a passionflower skullcap mixture that he smokes from a pipe. He is looking for an herbal alternative to the morphine. Thank you in advance.

Well, morphine is an opiate...and opiates *are* herbal, specifically derived from the poppy plant. Any other herb that does an equivalent job as morphine is going to be just as controlled and/or have their own side effects and addiction issues with chronic use.

He said that pot makes the pain worse. The pain is from the dying of nerves in his legs.
Thank you both for your input.

Sorry there isn't anything helpful to say...If his pain isn't being managed by the meds he's on, he needs to talk to his doc...and if his doc isn't cooperative, if he can, he should consider finding a new one (I know thats not always as easy as it it to say it). The other thing is that if he is taking anything herbal, he needs to tell his doc--there are quite a few drug interactions when herbs are used medicinally in therapeutic doses.

How is your friend doing? Has he made any progress, found something that works? Or is he still dealing with the same issues?
