Christians have no right to wear cross at work, says Government

Well, how rude, this has never happened before has it???

Christians have no right to wear cross at work, says Government

Christians do not have a right to wear a cross or crucifix openly at work, the Government is to argue in a landmark court case.

No one has harassed you over your religious symbol?? Ummm, welcome to the big club kids.

I really don't see the problem with it. I got crap for wearing a pentagram when I identified as Pagan, which was bull. Unless your job requires religious neutrality, there's not reason why you can't wear a cross to work.

I remember something happening at some of the casinos here in Nevada over the allowing/not allowing of facial piercings. In at least one Indian sect, women get their nose pierced when they get married. They lost the case against their employer because it was decided the nose piercing wasn't 'religious', it was a 'social status indicator'. I can't see the same holding water for crosses or other indicators of faith.

I can understand an airline banning jewelry, period, because of safety issues. Someone could grab you by a necklace or bracelet, a baby could snag a dangly earring, or jewelry could get caught on something if emergency equipment was released, and I suppose the same could be said in nursing - it's highly physical work. But just because it's faith based? Ehhh, not so convinced that the employers were right in these cases.

I guess folks can't understand that It isnt to take religion out of everything htat most people want, but simply to be free to worship however they wish. I mean, what does it matter if someone wears a cross, or prays, or sits in lotus counting mala on thier break? I have a pentacle and a Valknot tattoo- and though i keep them covered, it's only because of where I placed them. It's a sad world where a job can dictate anything about your life other than professional ethics.

one example that may be a bit off topic- In my code of ethics from work it states "the therapist will refrain from engaging in any activities that may cast a bad light on the company" what does that even mean? going ot a nascar event? eating fast food? it's just ridicuolus

Yep, I was told I couldn't wear a necklace with a medallion that represents my religious beliefs because it didn't "Fit" their idea of a religious "Symbol". This was even after I told them the U.S. Government even recognizes Paganism as a religion.

But like it was said "welcome to the club"

What was the name of that old movie.....Metropolis or something like that?

We used to have a wipe-board at my work which had to be filled in every day, including the time and date.

They really didn't like it when I wrote, "Thor's Day" every week. I was told to stop but replied it was religious expression. Eventually the wipe-board was removed.

the idea of it is wearing a cross is not a requirement of their religion, therefore a business has the right to tell them to not wear one, or at least dont let it be seen. If something is required in the belief system of a religion, they have to respect that.

This is basically my feeling. I have to support people with personal care as part of my job. I work in mental health, so also have to deal with challenging/potentially violent behaviour. I'm not to wear hanging earings or long necklaces and I'm not permitted to wear my nose stud. It's just common sense. I could get snagged on hoisting equiptment, or even cause injury to those I care for.

Otherwise, I can't really understand why this would even become an issue. I mean, why has an employer chosen to ban what is essencially harmless jewelry, if not for Health and Safety? This must surely be a row over a dress code for safety reasons, with this quite important piece of information omitted from the report for dramatic impact.
夕方に急なにわか雨は「夕立」と呼ばれるなら、なぜ朝ににわか雨は「朝立ち」と呼ばれないの? ^^If a sudden rain shower in the evening is referred to as an 'evening stand', then why isn't a shower in the morning called 'morning stand'?

You want an honest answer? They are probably sick of the shit Christians do. That's why.

I doubt people practice that, in the West at least, widely today, but nonetheless, you could choose to. As far as a difference between religiosity and social status... If I were an Orthodox, Hasidic, or maybe even a Conservative Jew and married, I would be religiously compelled to cover my hair for piety. What might they do about something like that?
Wigs. Seriously. They cover the natural hair, and unless it's an outrageous color or style, most employers don't care. Yes, it's kind of 'fudging' the religious requirement, but it works for those who have to work.

Because you know a deity needs you to eat certain things or not eat certain things, wear certain things, or not eat certain things, work on certain days or not work on certain days...wear a certain symbol or not...

Because you know. A Deity actually NEEDS humans to do human things to exist. Seriously? This is why I think religion is just bs. Even whichever green theist you want to be that needs you to sit at your altar with your candle made of beeswax in a certain color facing a certain direction. GODS DON'T CARE. They really really don't. If believers were REAL believers of their deities they would know GODS were there before and will be there after them. They do this for their own human interest. Stop blaming religion for why you need to wear a wig, not eat pork or be complete and utter jack asses to the rest of the entire population that doesn't follow your puppet.

One day religion will be gone. And the world will be just fine. Every animal on this planet is an Atheist. We are the only species with a religion. And the ONLY species that cannot function.

I don't see the fuss. I remove my heathen pendant when I need to. It doesn't make me any less a Heathen.

Now THERE is a curious comment. How on earth did you go about polling animals on their spiritual beliefs? I certainly hope you taped the interviews; I'm sure they must be fascinating.

Control issues, of course. I remember the days when employability was based on gender, race, and sexual orientation. None of those had anything to do with health and safety.
