    Patron Deity Hecate?

So i feel like i have finally found my patron Goddess. Hecate.
So recently i just got out of the hospital for being hospitalized for depression. At first i felt very closed off and isolated. But after a few days it blossomed into a spiritual journey. I met someone who was into magic and paganism as well. He had brought a few books with him and let me browse though them when i was there. We shared ideas and thoughts back and forth the whole time while being there. He taught be how to do tarot readings with playing cards and we were doing them on other people. But back to my main story, during the first tarot reading i was observing him do on someone else, "Hecate" popped into my head. I felt an overwhelming sense of happiness. I began drawing goddess symbols in my journal and i felt a connection to her even though i didn't know much about her at the time. I feel like Hecate was there for me and helped me get through being in the hospital for a week. My illness has improved since. And i do not think it was just coincidence that i walked by this guys room when he was reading a book about magic and felt compelled to ask what the book was.
Since then i have done some research on Hecate and she has to do with darkness and dogs. I feel like she helped me through my dark time. And previously to being admitted i found that coyotes are my animal totem. I feel like nothing has been a coincidence. I feel like Hecate is reaching out to me.
    What do you guys think?
If you have one, how did you discover your patron/matron deity?

Kinda. Dogs are and have been commonly associate with her. "Darkness" is incredibly vague, though. A lot of things we might consider "dark" were not at all for ancient peoples. And much of what we think we know about Hekate comes from biased sources, such as Athenian documents and inscriptions. Some evidence indicates that she was a much more youthful and sexual figure in the societies she was originally worshipped in, and was prayed to as a liminal goddess--of various borders or thresholds, spiritual and physical. The line between life and death, the afterlife; childbirth; doorways and gates; the wooded land beyond the cities. The Athenians likely exaggerated the associations this had with death and wilderness, turning her into a "dark" personality. Possibly because she was a goddess of a foreign tribe, incorporated into the main Greek pantheon over time, whose cultural roles were filled by other goddesses. So, she was put into a marginalised place, and remained there in the popular mindset long after Antiquity.

May well be. If I were you, I'd attempt reaching back, cautiously of course, to confirm. No reason to go jumping the gun on something like this. But that's just me; I'm the testing, sceptical type. I require many instances of experience to feel like it's been proven to me. The human mind is incredibly adept at making pattern out of coincidence, something out of nothing.

repetition; we did this multiple times to make sure we had the right goddess.

Deities/powers, call them what you will, connect with us in many different ways, at different times in our lives. The important thing is that you feel that someone or something is helping you (but please, don't feel this lets you off taking your meds for depression... we have to help spiritual powers in every physical way we can.)

As you learn more about Hekate, you will find she is connected with so much more than just darkness and dogs. In fact, she covers just about every aspect of light you care to think of, and is sometimes portrayed as a young girl with a torch. Good luck on your path!

I've met The Goddess Hecate. Well that's one of her names. She's a beautiful blonde in black robes.

Not really. I've always found my personal relationship with certain deities to be a very private thing. I have always found it best to approach it without too many expectations... and at the end of the day I've always been happily astonished.

I think Hekate is a very misunderstood goddess and often approached for the wrong reasons. She isn't really a 'dark' goddess at all, or at least no more than any other. And she manifests in many different ways.

But when she wants to make herself known, she is quite unequivocal about it. And I'm perfectly happy with that.
