    Confused by gods

First off, I'm sorry if this is in the wrong section. I'm new and bound to make mistakes.

And so it goes like this.

    My patron god is Hermes.

However, my patron god is also Asclepius.

Yeah. Is this supposed to be possible?

I needed Asclepius when I was growing up because my Mother was abusive, and I required his help in order to survive. Every time I got beat up he patched me back together. For a few examples; I was a stillborn, but managed to come back, and in the NICU I healed way faster than the other kids who had less issues than I did. I had a heart murmur that vanished without a trace four hours after I was born (Revived? Brought to life? How does this even work?), when I broke my wrist it healed two weeks sooner than it was supposed to, when I damaged my neck and Mom refused to take me to the hospital it healed on its own with no adverse effects, when I get sick it's so mild I don't notice it and, consequently, don't need medicine for it, and when I was little I would capture snakes and play with them, not knowing that they were poisonous, but never got bitten. I only found out they were poisonous when the snake I was playing with bit one of my friends, prompting a three day stay in the hospital.

I needed Hermes when I was growing up because we traveled a lot, and I needed to smile every now and then. After a particularly nasty session with my Mother or my bullies, something nasty prankish would happen to them or something silly prankish would happen to me and make me smile. I like to think that as an escort of the dead, he didn't escort me when I was born, leading to me being able to type this out today. When it comes to luck or last second ordeals, I usually excel, and I can get completely lost, have no idea where the hell I am, guess and dawdle my way through the streets, and still end up where I was supposed to go.

Hermes wasn't as noticeably in my life as Asclepius because Asclepius needed to interfere more noticeably, if that makes any sense.

So are they both my patron gods, one my patron god and the other a god who took pity, or what. Because neither want to leave, and they've both been there since birth.

Once again, I'm really, terribly sorry if this is in the wrong area. I saw a few thread titles with gods/goddesses and kind of guessed.

    Re: Confused by gods

If it is working for you, and it sounds like it is, then it is obviously possible

The idea of having one patron god and one goddess is a more wiccan format (someone correct me if I'm wrong on that) and doesn't apply to everyone. I, f'ex, honour two goddesses and a god, but I wouldn't call them my patrons. They have all chosen to be part of my life and my worship and who am I to tell them they are wrong.

    Yoda

Yoda told stories, and ate, and cried, and laughed: and the Padawans saw that life itself was a lightsaber in his hands; even in the face of treachery and death and hopes gone cold, he burned like a candle in the darkness. Like a star shining in the black eternity of space.

"But those men who know anything at all about the Light also know that there is a fierceness to its power, like the bare sword of the law, or the white burning of the sun." Suddenly his voice sounded to Will very strong, and very Welsh. "At the very heart, that is. Other things, like humanity, and mercy, and charity, that most good men hold more precious than all else, they do not come first for the Light. Oh, sometimes they are there; often, indeed. But in the very long run the concern of you people is with the absolute good, ahead of all else..."

    Re: Confused by gods

Patron deities are seldom chosen by us - we are normally chosen by them. If more than one god pokes you in the back of the head, you'd do well to listen. Seeing as Hermes is uncle to Asclepius, this relationship isn't too farfetched.

Despite all the hardships you've evidently gone through, you seem very resilient and to have a good sense of humor about it. It's no wonder Hermes chose you.

Haha, I guess you're right. Don't fix what isn't broken, huh?

Hermes is not just a god of travel.

Just google: Hermes and Asclepius -> I'm Feeling Lucky

My views on patron gods and 'esses, however, may be taken as offensive her so that's where my help should probably stop. Good luck.

If it feels right and you don't feel off, let it be. If it ain't broke don't fix it. That's already been said, but I just think it bears repeating. Not everything works for everyone, and there is no reason to "conform to the norm." Have fun doing what makes you happy.

    Oh, well, now I'm intrigued.

On the main topic, though: there's no real impediment to having multiple patron gods. So, just go with what feels right and has been working for you. It's clearly been beneficial.

    Re: Confused by gods

In my faith, it is equally possible to have two Matrons, or two Patrons, or one of each. There is a system of "Parent" and "Beloved" deities, where a Parent is more associated with your soul in general and a Beloved has taken an interest in this particular incarnation of yourself. Kind of like having your Parent(s) who you're born from, and the rest of your family - aunts, uncles, grandparents, etc- who support you in other aspects of your life maybe your parent can't do alone.
That being said, I feel that the "Matron/Patron" views kind of skew the purpose of parent deity(ies). Some people have one god as their patron, some have two or more. Some only connect with a specific gender of deity, some only with lunar deities.
I think that it's great that you have directly felt the influence of both Asclepius and Hermes. I'm sure that you can ask Them whether or not They are your patron gods, or ask if you can honor Them as such. If They're against it, They'll let you know.
