    Kill poor to fix budget?

    Oh deary dear me. I sometimes (ok quite often) wonder what on earth is wrong with people!!! One of the Australian Liberal Party-alined lobbyists has suggests that to fix our budget issues...they should "cull" the poor. Apparently it was quite tongue in cheek...but you never know with statements made on the interwebs...the thought has to come from somewhere right?

    Politicians everywhere sometimes say the stupidest things,this last election was something here in the U.S. I got the impression from some of them that they thought everyone agreed on some really crazy stuff. The one that said a woman being raped could stop a pregnancy from such an act because (and I quote) "their bodies have ways to stop pregnancy,if it is a legitimate rape" with the implied notion that it isn't really rape if the woman gets pregnant,cause the body has ways....to stop it. This guy would not even retract his statement even though he got major blow back from it.

      Oh yes I remember reading that article and being completely horrified...it made me feel physically sick.

        Re: Kill poor to fix budget?

        Politicians are funny. I thought politics was another genre of humour.

        You should listen to the guys here at my country! "A bird embodying the soul of Chavez (our late president) told me this and that" or "We got missiles that are able to travel 300km (instead of 30.000km) to defend ourselves from the imperialists!" even "The future will be better tomorrow"
        "Obama is a poor ignorant...", "We are suffering from political dysfunction, we need some political Viagra"
        "Coke is not cocaine! I chew it every day and look how I am! Starts dancing."

        Now, killing the poor to fix the budget does sound stupid. Kill the rich! Let the emerging companies surface!

          The sequestration has in effect set this possibility in motion here by stopping Medicaid and medicare patients from receiving chemotherapy treatments at clinics. They can still get them at hospitals but will have more out of pocket expense incurred by these patients. If you are already on a low income budget this could be beyond your ability to pay for it. I expect more than a few people will not be able to afford it. This is could be seen by some officials as a win-win situation because there would not only be a reduction in medicaid and medicare cost but also a reduction of the number of people receiving social security payments due to the death of the recipient.
          Gargoyles watch over me...I can hear them snicker in the dark.

          Pull the operating handle (which protrudes from the right side of the receiver) smartly to the rear and release it.

              Have you ever read “A Modest Proposal.” By Jonathan Smith? If not I highly recommend it as the best political satire/argumentative essay I’ve ever been assigned to read. He makes mockery of the way the British where behaving towards the Irish during the potato famine and it was the first thing to pop into my head at the start of this post.

              People can be very stupid, and it’s sad that it wouldn’t surprise me anymore to hear that they where serious, but it also wouldn’t surprise me if he where just being sarcastic in the same brutal way Mr. Smith was.
              I'd rather be a could-be if I cannot be an are;
              because a could-be is a maybe who is reaching for a star.
              I'd rather be a has-been than a might-have-been, by far;
              for a might have-been has never been,
              but a has was once an are.

              -Milton Berle-

                What the elite politicians fail to understand (until it's too late) is that it is the poor who have made them wealthy. In spite of the abohorrent sentiments expressed towards the poor, it would be self defeating anyway.

                And without the poor.... everyone will slide downwards anyway.

                Silly buggers, these politicians

                  I'm pretty sure that most politicians everywhere don't know how the middle class, let alone the poor, live.

                      The 'legitimate rape' guy was Senator Todd Akin of Missouri. It was with great pleasure that I voted for his opponent, Sen. Claire McCaskill, who won. During the campaign, Akin spoke in my town. I restrained myself from attending.
