    introduction to Buddhist meditation

You probably didn't know it, but each time you use the word "meditation", you speak about Buddhism !

It's an occidental word, of course, but his original sens is something like "intense, long and rational reflection" (like in the Descartes's Metaphysical Meditation-Take a position not to hard, and not to comfortable. If you are taken by lethargy and the desire to sleep, take a harder position, open more your eyes and look up. If you are taken by agitation and the desire to move or doing other things, take a more comfortable position, lower your eyelids, and look down.

-Chose an object of concentration (for example, your respiration, a point -real or not- on a wall, an image of Buddha or of a god, etc) and focus on it. Meditation without object is also possible, but very more difficult.

-Don't try to stop the flux of your thoughts. It's very hard, and you will be rapidly deplete. All you have to do, is being conscious of them, and let them appears and disappears, "like clouds on the blue sky". Don't identify them with you, they are just mechanical disturbing phenomenons.

-If you lost your concentration, don't be ashamed. If you know that, it means that you have recover your lucidity ! Don't try to make more effort to offset, it's useless and tiring. Just keep your concentration, and enjoy your full-consciousness.

-Remember : regular and humble efforts are better than occasional tentative of feat.
