    Re: Whatcha Watchin'?

Just watched the season 2 finale of Star Trek Discovery. WOWZA! Now, I'm an original ST person through and through, and every time they make some new version, I drag my heels and look for flaws. The 1st season had promise, but this season pulled things together and the finale was spectacular.

Can you hear me, Major Tom? I think I love you.

    Unit 42

Like most police procedurals, it's failings in the actual procedure part are epic, glaring and many but it's amusing enough to overlook those for the moment. Granted, watching theoretical tech experts log directly into a machine taken as evidence remains moderately irritating. Copying a drive is not that hard. Copy the drive, run the copy through autopsy/FTK/insert-forensic-suite-here, watch forensic software tear drive apart and quasi-neatly categorize its files for you. STOP DIRECTLY LOGGING INTO THE F-ING EVIDENCE!!!! DIRECT LOG IN IS BAD AND YOU SHOULD FEEL BAD FOR DOING IT!!!!

Minor rant concluded, you may now move along.
"It is not simply enough to know the light…a Jedi must feel the tension between the two sides of the Force…in himself and in the universe."
    ―Thon

"When to the Force you truly give yourself, all you do expresses the truth of who you are,"

    Yoda

Yoda told stories, and ate, and cried, and laughed: and the Padawans saw that life itself was a lightsaber in his hands; even in the face of treachery and death and hopes gone cold, he burned like a candle in the darkness. Like a star shining in the black eternity of space.

    Yoda: Dark Rendezvous

"But those men who know anything at all about the Light also know that there is a fierceness to its power, like the bare sword of the law, or the white burning of the sun." Suddenly his voice sounded to Will very strong, and very Welsh. "At the very heart, that is. Other things, like humanity, and mercy, and charity, that most good men hold more precious than all else, they do not come first for the Light. Oh, sometimes they are there; often, indeed. But in the very long run the concern of you people is with the absolute good, ahead of all else..."

John Rowlands, The Grey King by Susan Cooper

"You come from the Lord Adam and the Lady Eve", said Aslan. "And that is both honour enough to erect the head of the poorest beggar, and shame enough to bow the shoulders of the greatest emperor on earth; be content."

Aslan, Prince Caspian by CS Lewis

I thought it really stepped up in the season 2. The first season was good enough, but I think nostalgia carried me through. Themes and story lines got tighter in season 2. Although I'm not sure that some of it was realistic. I wonder what really would have happened to Tench with the FBI with that family storyline. Those events actually happened, but not to an FBI agent.

Binged Amazon Prime's "Undone" yesterday. Loved it, but it makes you think.
