“You have never answered but you did not need to. If I stand at the ocean I can hear you with your thousand voices. Sometimes you shout, hilarious laughter that taunts all questions. Other nights you are silent as death, a mirror in which the stars show themselves. Then I think you want to tell me something, but you never do. Of course I know I have written letters to no-one. But what if I find a trident tomorrow?" ~~Letters to Poseidon, Cees Nooteboom
“We still carry this primal relationship to the Earth within our consciousness, even if we have long forgotten it. It is a primal recognition of the wonder, beauty, and divine nature of the Earth. It is a felt reverence for all that exists. Once we bring this foundational quality into our consciousness, we will be able to respond to our present man-made crisis from a place of balance, in which our actions will be grounded in an attitude of respect for all of life. This is the nature of real sustainability.”
~~Llewellyn Vaughan-Lee

I have been following this for a bit. Many of the deaths have been off the Jersey coast. There has been some talk that the changing environment is effecting the way sickness is happening. The brain eating virus that a young boy got from swimming in fresh water was blamed on much warmer temps. It makes me sad that so many Dolphins have died, but it is in many way natures way,but we as humans must shoulder some of the blame as well(But that is another thread)

A lot of stuff went into the water during Hurricane/Superstorm Sandy. There are many, many possibilities here......
Can you hear me, Major Tom? I think I love you.
yes, this is purely the outcome of dumping going on, since years
I doubt it. Animals get sick too... Most of these dolphins have symptoms of cetacean morbillivirus, and 32 of the 33 have tested positive for it. Yes, dumping is bad, and sure, pollution causes animal deaths...but at most, perhaps there might be some connection between pollution and immune systems...but consiering the latency between this outbreak and the last, I'm willing to bet the idea that most of these dolphins are no longer immune is a good call.
...but seeing a dead dolphin this weekend was sad.
In better news, today I saw 5 pods, one of about 30 dolphins (usually 8-14 is the norm around here)...
