Re: The Society Rant
How about societies ridiculous behavior towards parents in public....that's a good one....gets me going reeeeaalllyyyy good.
I see this ALL THE DAMN time, seriously. In the sub train, on the bus, in trains, at restaurants, cafes etc. A mom with her child (age 2 - 5 mostly) and the kid happens to be acting up...misbehaving in public. Screaming because he/she isn't getting what he/she wants for example. The parent has choices here of course to either do something about this or not to...Either effing way, doesn't matter what you do or not do, say or not say to your kid, everyone around you is going to think you're "horrible". If the mother does nothing the people start talking and saying things like "OMG wont you look at that...that kid is acting like a brat and she isn't doing anything about it.....these are today's problems.....parents not raising their kids properly"
and if the mother DOES do something....verbally scold them (after repeating herself 15 times nicely) or does a slight tapping of a hand....or maybe a light tap on the bum....OH GOOD GOD all hell breaks loose too... "OMG did you see that?! she is yelling at her kid in public..." "and i even saw her tap him/her on his/her hand....OMG i bet she beats her kid regulary at home..." "that poor child"
i have overheard things like this in subs, buses etc...where the exact situation was going on AND I have had it happen to myself just recently. And it wasn't the first time. It's absolutely ridiculous and pathetic. I hate people.

I cannot believe what I just processed with my very own brain cells. This is horrible to say the least. Further more I do not know how the people who were responsible for this look in the mirror let alone fall asleep at night. These are definitely people who's mothers, the only people obligated to love them by birth, would be a shame to call them their kids.

Re: The Society Rant
Society had degenerated into stupidity and insanity. It's a shame because many good people are caught in the cross fire because of stupid people's actions. Today as you mentioned Parents are afraid of disciplining their kids out of fear of being called an abuser, or some are lazy and couldn't care less about them and let them wander around causing chaos. This a society that has become a "blame everyone except yourself" society" People blame restaruants for making them fat, they blame shows for showing adult stuff and their kids watch it, but it's the parent's responsibility to make sure their kids don't watch it in the first place.
This society has become a very mooching society. So many people want to have things without earning it. They want free items, free money and not work. One reason why I hate the welfare programs. It mostly encourages people to be lazy and the people don't care even if they're being enslaved by their government or having their rights trampled. As long as they get their free stuff, that's all that matters. I also hate the fact that so many people want attention nowadays and it's pathetic that people will be willing to say or anything just to get attention on t.v. the internet, ect.
Also people don't question authority as much as they should now. People will look at you as if you're crazy for questioning your government. A lot of nations wouldn't have gained independence if they didn't question it. Society as basically become a moronic, attenion seeking lazy, brainwashed cowardly folk

Re: The Society Rant
My thoughts exactly, Alienist. Though I would like to add teachers in the whole 'afraid of discipline' thing. I've heard too many stories of teachers being fired over the just discipline of a student, often because the delinquent's parents got angry and probably threatened to sue. So more often than not, they let the brats be brats. Then there's also turning the other way in regards to kids bullying other kids. Then when the bully victim commits suicide it's "hmm, maybe we should've done something."
Um. DUH. Some kids's people...

Also the fact that our Society has gotten to the point, where one has to have surveillance cameras installed in kindergardens, to make sure there are no pedophilistic activities going on, is simpy f**king sad to say the last. This should NOT be necessary...but sadly it is.
Further more as a mother it pisses me off...it literally boils my blood. You can't trust ANYONE in this messed up hellwhole we call a 'decent society'

What kills me about society is this idea that anything is really different than at any other time in society. People are people. Human nature hasn't changed. The "problems" we think are "special" to us are the same "problems" as previous generations. The only difference is technology.
That and the sheer number of people that make and hold opinions that are completely contrary to the evidence from actual data.Wonderful Life: The Burgess Shale and the Nature of HistoryPagan Devotionals, because the wind and the rain is our Bible

When it was possible for a family to live off of one paycheck (which is not really possible anymore if you think about it...or lets say more unlikely) mothers were usually staying home with their kids, thats just how it use to be. The chances are much slimmer for a child to miss certain important emotional develpomental stages when around their mother in their home rather than kids being dropped off at day care at 7 in the morning until 6 at night. Sure bad things happened then to, just as they do today. I can't fully agree that things are the EXACT same though. Things around us change which also changes our ideas/emotions/opinions etc. which also make our handling change. I studied psychology for years in college and that is a proven fact about human intelligence.
So lets say technology was the only thing that changes, which it is not...clearly...look at it this way, it would still impact our surroundings, which would impact our daily lives including our emotions, opinions, ideas, opportunities and of course our actions.
Also look at our general care towards other people nowadays compared to a time that is long gone. The only reason why people turned into self centered folk isn't because they are evil...They just don't know any different anymore. We don't live in a world anymore where we all gather around on laundry days and we all do this together, because there was no other solution....We all have our own washmashines nowadays. We all have our own things going on, it isn't necessary to look at the person next door anymore, because everyone is occupied with themselves. So when someone does need help, a sense of community or simplt wants these things it's sometimes even frown upon. (sure depending where you are) It's another example for normal mutation. Proven also that if we were forced to live in dark caves with no light, or bodies after generation after generation and generation would stop using sight...it would cocentrate on other senses. We would eventually be blind or have very very horrible eyesight if ever drug out of the cave. It is naive to think this does not also happen with our mental properties.
Change the surrounding and the entire being will start changing, physically and psychologically. And we may not be growing a third arm or leg, but with the world changing around us it does with a 100% guarantee affect our mental properties by a ton.

I have to agree with Thal here as well. Our ideas may have a slightly different way of being expressed, but I imagine it's all the same conversations and ways of doing things, just appearing to be different outwardly.http://catcrowsnow.blogspot.com/

Re: The Society Rant
This has reminded me about a statement a fellow teacher made recently:
ADD - Adult Discipline Deprived.
Not this is not meant to be offensive, I know there are some of you who have ADD/ADHD or have kids who have it. But where I live, there is one or two, and the rest are just shits who the parent's claim have it, when they don't know how to control their kids. Makes life pretty hard for the teachers.... *sighs*ThorSon's milkshake brings all the PF girls to the yard - Volcaniclastic
RIP
I have never been across the way
Seen the desert and the birds
You cut your hair short
Like a shush to an insult
The world had been yelling
Since the day you were born
Revolting with anger
While it smiled like it was cute
That everything was shit.

Re: The Society Rant
Actually, we are living in the most peaceful, accepting, safest society in history. But when bad things happen, anywhere we hear about it, see the videos, etc. 'Things are great !' Doesn't win ratings wars. The media outlets are in constant competition with each other for our attention and they'll say or do anything to keep it.
"Look ! A picture of a gay Marine kissing his boyfriend. Make up a story to go with this; it will rile up the Midwest."
"Uh oh, nobody cares ! Society's become accepting!"
"We need to scare them ! A guy was spotted driving a van near an elementary school. Let's say the driver was a Satan worshipping Socialist from Iraq who just got out of a mental instituion."
"But it's all made up."
"Who cares ? We'll print a correction after everyone's good and freaked out!"

You see this especially with "omg, I'm never let my kids _____________ alone! my kids are going to get kidnapped/raped/whatever" paranoia. Statistically speaking, crime was higher in the 80's, and parents had no problem letting their kids play outside. And, the number of kidnappings (by strangers) has pretty much been stable for the past 50-60 years (which really means its gone down due to population rise). When kids get kidnapped its by parents, family, etc.Wonderful Life: The Burgess Shale and the Nature of HistoryPagan Devotionals, because the wind and the rain is our Bible
