"Mother sets fire to her daughter's gloating rapist"

I can't give this story justice by summarizing it, but the article is here.

This man is evil, in all honesty. To rape someone by itself is an ineffable crime, then to go to the mother and ask "How's your daughter?"
I would've reacted in the same way.

To be honest with myself, I would have reacted the same way as well. There is no way I could have held myself back.

The man was evil. Definitely.... *shudders*

Hmm... the byline on this story is dated 2005...

    No argument there.

The guy is an asshole, just absolute scum, but setting him on fire is entirely out of line. You cannot encourage people to take justice into their own hands, that's lunacy.

The fact of the matter is she was most likely mentally ill, because a sane and good person does not walk away from a situation, fill a cup with gas, grab a match, walk back, find their target, pour gas on them, and then throw the match.

That's not losing control and beating someone up, that's straight up deciding to brutally murder someone.
Trust is knowing someone or something well enough to have a good idea of their motivations and character, for good or for ill. People often say trust when they mean faith.

The ability to destroy a planet is insignificant compared to the power of the Force.

Re: "Mother sets fire to her daughter's gloating rapist"

Shrug, temporary insanity has at times in the past 50 years been a valid legal defense. Not sure whether it was available or used by this lady.

Past that, yes, she needs to stand trial of some kind because society cannot afford to sanction private vengeance. The cost of allowing that is higher than any possible gain by a significant margin. Doesn't mean people won't sympathize and on some level agree with her actions. I can think of significantly worse things she could've done to the man given the opportunity and I'd still sympathize with her.

I am inclined to second Medusa's question WTF was this scum doing on a three day pass?
"It is not simply enough to know the light…a Jedi must feel the tension between the two sides of the Force…in himself and in the universe."
    ―Thon

"When to the Force you truly give yourself, all you do expresses the truth of who you are,"

    Yoda

Yoda told stories, and ate, and cried, and laughed: and the Padawans saw that life itself was a lightsaber in his hands; even in the face of treachery and death and hopes gone cold, he burned like a candle in the darkness. Like a star shining in the black eternity of space.

    Yoda: Dark Rendezvous

"But those men who know anything at all about the Light also know that there is a fierceness to its power, like the bare sword of the law, or the white burning of the sun." Suddenly his voice sounded to Will very strong, and very Welsh. "At the very heart, that is. Other things, like humanity, and mercy, and charity, that most good men hold more precious than all else, they do not come first for the Light. Oh, sometimes they are there; often, indeed. But in the very long run the concern of you people is with the absolute good, ahead of all else..."

John Rowlands, The Grey King by Susan Cooper

"You come from the Lord Adam and the Lady Eve", said Aslan. "And that is both honour enough to erect the head of the poorest beggar, and shame enough to bow the shoulders of the greatest emperor on earth; be content."

Aslan, Prince Caspian by CS Lewis

Mainly the responsibility is the system that let this guy out, this does not let off the mother, but the system must bare some of the responsibility. Like the Duce,I gotta give this a WTF for sure.
