Re: Pagan News & Pagans in the News

Did a quick search on PF and didn't find it mentioned, so....

"Pagan fire ritual gone wrong killed Kamloops woman, says husband"
    http://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/britis...band-1.3020371

For the record, it wasn't a 'fire ritual'....it was a healing ritual she was doing for her uncle in which she was using a candle.

This happened March 31. It hit Kamloops pretty hard, especially the pagan community, here, which is really quite loose and most practice solitary. It HAS been a catalyst for pagans reaching out and meeting/supporting each other, which is one silver lining, I suppose. Heather and I had both been associated with the same Druid group, however, we never crossed paths, though I knew who she was. (the pagan community here is quite small)

Authorities still have the stone structure cornered off, a continual reminder of what happened there. I wish they would move forward, either removing the baracade, or removing the structure...whatever they decide...just get it done.

Ohhh, I hope he gets caught and fired hardcore. Jailed, even, since opening someone else's mail is a federal offense.

Not only a crime, but religious persecution as well. I'm so sick of people who want one size to fit all.

It's no one's business what you get in the mail, as long as it's neither a bomb nor anthrax. If I want pagan books or adult toys, it's still the mail person's job to bring them to my front door.

And it's the county clerk's job to sign marriage certificates. Hope we aren't going to see a bunch of gov't. employees trying to get their 15 minutes of fame.

Can I get in on this 15 minutes of gov't employee fame?
“You have never answered but you did not need to. If I stand at the ocean I can hear you with your thousand voices. Sometimes you shout, hilarious laughter that taunts all questions. Other nights you are silent as death, a mirror in which the stars show themselves. Then I think you want to tell me something, but you never do. Of course I know I have written letters to no-one. But what if I find a trident tomorrow?" ~~Letters to Poseidon, Cees Nooteboom

“We still carry this primal relationship to the Earth within our consciousness, even if we have long forgotten it. It is a primal recognition of the wonder, beauty, and divine nature of the Earth. It is a felt reverence for all that exists. Once we bring this foundational quality into our consciousness, we will be able to respond to our present man-made crisis from a place of balance, in which our actions will be grounded in an attitude of respect for all of life. This is the nature of real sustainability.”
    ~~Llewellyn Vaughan-Lee

"We are the offspring of history, and must establish our own paths in this most diverse and interesting of conceivable universes--one indifferent to our suffering, and therefore offering us maximal freedom to thrive, or to fail, in our own chosen way."
~~Stephen Jay Gould, Wonderful Life: The Burgess Shale and the Nature of History

"Humans are not rational creatures. Now, logic and rationality are very helpful tools, but there’s also a place for embracing our subjectivity and thinking symbolically. Sometimes what our so-called higher thinking can’t or won’t see, our older, more primitive intuition will." John Beckett

You'll have to do something uncharacteristically stupid, claiming it's because you're a good ol' Christian, just before a presidential election while the Republicans are afraid of losing.

It's really not that hard, but it will cost you all your self respect.
Every moment of a life is a horrible tragedy, a slapstick comedy, dark nihilism, golden illumination, or nothing at all; depending on how we write the story we tell ourselves.

I won't be wronged. I won't be insulted. I won't be laid a-hand on. I don't do these things to other people, and I require the same from them ... John Bernard Books

Indian Chief 'Two Eagles' was asked by a white government official; "You have observed the white man for 90 years. You've seen his wars and his technological advances. You've seen his progress, and the damage he's done."

    The Chief nodded in agreement.

The official continued; "Considering all these events, in your opinion, where did the white man go wrong?"

The Chief stared at the government official for over a minute and then calmly replied.. "When white man find land, Indians running it, no taxes, no debt, plenty buffalo, plenty beaver, clean water. Women did all the work, Medicine Man free. Indian man spend all day hunting and fishing; all night having sex."

Then the chief leaned back and smiled; "Only white man dumb enough to think he could improve system like that."

Huh, I have always worked to keep couples together when they were not both involved in the same religion. If I had known that I could have had sex with them after they divorced... No, it just wasn't happening. As far as "Dark arts" are concerned it is a truth that a witch who cannot curse cannot heal but both traditions that I have been involved with and all the public rites I have attended have steered clear of using curses and spells that would cause harm. (with the exception of the wars of the 70s) That was truly a dark time for the craft in all its manifestations.

I am surprised that there were no "child sacrifices" mentioned.
