Energy problem solved - Thanks to U.S. Navy

    Way to go, Navy!

U.S. Navy Has Found A Way To Turn Seawater Into Fuel
Every moment of a life is a horrible tragedy, a slapstick comedy, dark nihilism, golden illumination, or nothing at all; depending on how we write the story we tell ourselves.

I should point out that you use more energy to make the fuel than the fuel actually provides. Not to say it isn't useful, the Navy has several nuke powered vessels that can spare the energy and using them to produce fuel as well as their other roles or building purpose specific vessels with nuclear reactors to power the process can save the Navy a whole lot of moving oil tankers around and cuts down on part of the logistical migraines that the Navy deals in.

Making it viable to the rest of the population will sort of depend on what we've got available to power it. I think it could be made useful on a wider scale but it'll take some steps past

      Or maybe not.

A main problem with power is the energy-to-weight ratio.

There are a lot of power sources, but they are too heavy to be portable, and so of limited usefulness (solar panels to power a car are impracticable, but solar panels to charge a battery to power a car is workable).

Use those sources to make jet fuel, in the same way that we use running water to generate electricity.

That quote depends largely on who the target consumer is. Even with net loss, the ability for say a carrier to generate fuel for its battle group and its air wing instead of needing to send tankers to and from oil facilities is a major boon. It may or may not have a big impact on the civilian market but there are a number of uses for it to anyone who has easy access to a nuclear reactor and significantly less easy access to a conventional fuel supply.

That would be me. My fortress of solitude has a nuclear generator, but it's a 40 minute drive to the gas station.

Ah, but title promised "Energy Problem Solved." I felt it had been a bit oversold.
