Apparently Chase bank will be closing all accounts of any bank customer who works in the adult porn industry. Apparently other banks are doing this. Now I know. Businesses have a right to serve whomever they want. I get that. But doesn't the public have a say in this considering our public contributions to these financial institutions? I'm sure we all think this sucks. But do you think this should be illegal? Where do you reside?

And think about this: One day the banks can decide they don't want you as their customer because of your hair, your race, your religion, that you like powerpuff girls, that you give money to save the dolphins etc.

I realize we all think well it's not me...so it's not really my problem. So banks should be allowed to do this. But it is you. It's going to be you eventually. What are you going to do? Besides going to another bank. But then that bank says no. Then another bank. And before long you can't go to any bank, etc etc.

Well.....the sidebar ads that ran while I was reading that sure were, um, interesting! LOL So, are they going to also close the accounts of people who purchase the stuff? Or is this gonna be like prostitution where the girls get busted but the johns are largely ignored?

If it weren't for the fact that having a bank account is required to survive anymore, I think it's bullshit. Were that not the case I would support their right to serve whomever they choose (although it's a bit distressing that someone would have the gall to pull something like this, I can't say I'm surprised).

The curious thing about this is that it will eventually reach the Supreme Court, and that's likely to have much further reaching consequences. Remember when the head of Chick-Fil-A or however the hell it's spelled pushed back on his right to voice his own opinions? He wasn't even denying service. Or the bakery in Oregon that didn't want to make a wedding cake for a homosexual couple because of their religious preferences (Douchy, but I support their right to be that way)...how about Catholic Churches and providing contraceptives as part of their medical coverage?

Yes...I suspect that the outcome from this is going to be vastly more important than just one bank's opinion.

I'm pretty sure this is not only illegal but them trying to force their values onto other people and slut shaming (which is a way of forcing someones values onto someone else) all rolled into one. I also think it's screwed up considering how much money people put into these damn businesses. I say sue them and take them for everything they can.

Hey, I sure will. This is discrimination, plain and simple. Maybe porn workers don't have the nobelist of vocations, but since when were the banks high and morally mighty?!!! The irony kills me.

I usually feel like people can support other businesses, usually, but some of this stuff is crazy....
bank accounts are required anymore to survive, they just are.... So let's take away these peoples ability to use a bank..... Yeah sure there are other options, nice little small town banks, they can't make the same offers as big banks, and they are often less accommodating and convenient if your job is unconventional....
this seems like a financially un-rewarding stance for the bank to half heatedly make.... I say half heartedly, because they aren't closing the accounts of people who buy stuff from sex shops, or utilize other parts of the porn industry, and in taking a stand against the porn industry I think that would be more effective....

The problem here is it is discrimination, who would argue that it is ok to turn down a person for being black, a woman, Irish, or catholic? But we have been there as a nation, why do we want to go backwards?
