    Ideas and help needed please

So I was wondering. How does one get "closer" to their God/Goddess? I've seen a few posts on other threads saying that some kind of "sacrifice" is required - but i'm not really sure quite what this means in real life, everyday terms (for the record, i'd figured it doesn't mean mass-murder.)

I'm also at the point where i'm getting bored/impatient of just reading and researching (which I understand the importance of and have been doing for a while now) and I want to do something more to actually practice my path and compliment what i'm researching, without going into full-blown ritual or circle-and-spell-casting.

I guess I'm looking for suggestions of where to start. Hopefully once I've got a few ideas it will start the ball rolling and the ideas will pour forth naturally.

If it helps, my patron deity is Sulis, but i'd like to start working with other [Mainland England] Celtic deities too, if I can.

Sorry for the vast number of links in this post, but they are all helpful.

It really depends on the deity, your beliefs, and what you're comfortable with. Daily devotionals are a good place to start. Thal has a blog on that here: http://lectiodivinapaganus.wordpress.com/ It's full of things to contemplate, and it's actually a favorite on my computer. Meditation, even for a short time is another very good practice to get into.

When it comes to sacrifice, I tend to think of it in terms of fasting. There's the blood sacrifice, used in ritual, discussed in some detail here: http://www.paganforum.com/showthread...ight=sacrafice But also, there's sacrificing something valuable to you for a time. Modernly, some people have even given up their IPod, Internet, TV, etc, for a set amount of time. A friend of mine is vegan, which is another type of sacrifice, if you ask me. Something that you give up, because you feel called to, or your particular deity requires it. Kind of like Lent, only for Pagans

Something I discovered recently, while exploring options for seminary schools for pagans... one school does rituals on Second Life. You might be able to find something like that in the game if you're interested in exploring rituals without going all out. It's an idea.

Also, here's some threads that may be of interest:

We are what we are. Nothing more, nothing less. There is good and evil among every kind of people. It's the evil among us who rule now. -Anne Bishop, Daughter of the Blood

I wondered if he could ever understand that it was a blessing, not a sin, to be graced with more than one love.
It could be complicated; of course it could be complicated. And it opened one up to the possibility of more pain and loss.
Still, it was a blessing I would never relinquish. Love, genuine love, was always a cause for joy.

Thanks for those suggestions, I'll check them out. Lots of links and information is always good.

I didn't know you could get pagan schools (Maybe it's different in the US from the UK) and I'm not sure what you mean by "Second Life" either.
