How do you look back on all your past love experiences once you've reached that age? Do you look back and realized that sometimes what you thought you felt wasn't as strong as you used to think it was? Do you regret things you did, choices you've made?

Do we ever reach a point in our lives that we acquire the ability to accept our past? To not have doubts and What If's?

Well, I'm not an old guy but... I'll tell you what I learned. We can forgive ourselves the mistakes we made for ourselves. But not the ones that others took it upon themselves to make for us.

And in my mind, I'm still 16.

Right on Sister Tylluan, lay the word down...we are all young inside, just the box we came in is a little beaten up. Somethings you can never forget, but you do learn how to not let some things eat at you. Love means something different to me now..it used to be wild and passionate. Now it is a comfort when I am alone at night feeling cold and alone. I miss people that I knew that went ahead...I miss my friends of the animal kind. Now I do love and cherish my little grand kids(actually not as little as they were,6 and 4 now) I do sit quietly and think about death from time to time, also I think about the good times when I was much younger. Sean, try and hang in there, remember France if I remember is a socialist country so check out training programs to learn another trade. There was a time when I was much younger that I thought I would never, ever be this age. But yet here I am,still kicking...If life is nothing else,it can surprise you again and again.

One day you may be typing these words to a younger person when you get this age.

I met my ex-husband when I was 16. We were on & off until we finally married when I was 24. Divorced at 27, and the entire ride was a roller coaster. Now, 30 years post-divorce, I just shake my head at the whole episode. I wish my parents had seen through him, but really, no one did. He was a masterful manipulator. A lot of the things that were so important about relationships then, mean absolutely nothing now. Time has a way of healing things, and other new things happen. There will always be setbacks, but I look back on the good things. If life was a horse race I'd say I'm coming around the far turn. Not quite into deep stretch yet, but I'm becoming aware of the finish line's approach.

SeanRave, there are some boyfriends I look back on now and just laugh. At the time there was drama, tears, you name it. But now I'm just like "What was I thinking?" I'm glad for all the experiences - I learned something from every chapter so far, and there's still some more ahead.

Here's my input - I honestly can't remember most of the bad things that were done TO me over the years, but I remember the bad things I've DONE TO other pretty clearly.

That's one good reason to try and be more careful, as if I needed more...

How haven't I seen this thread before???
I have a question. Would you return to the age of elementary and high school if you had the chance? Why, or why not?

Those were some wretched years for me, Gleb. I think I will skip that opportunity.

Perhaps to the age without the stupid, and Awkward parts of that age. To be young and to have my present knowledge would be "Interesting"

I wouldn't want to go back in time or age, no how, no way! Been there, done that...ready for the next step...sigh.

Aging body scares me, I won't lie.

My mind was used to a young healthy body, and I got mentally attached to certain hobbies, past times, exercises etc that are not available to me any more, and I have to "reinvent" myself mentally in some ways.

There is a mourning for my old abilities, energy etc, and sometimes a reluctance to put effort into making new positive outlets...sometimes I fall into the "why bother?" category, knowing that in time those things too will pass.

But sometimes I welcome the "I don't care anymore" attitude because there are many things that no longer matter, that it feels really good to wave good bye to. Lots of the "I don't care" is totally appropriate, and it frees up my mind and time for other things, so there is that balance.

Do you find that as time goes on, you forget things? Specifically, important events/times or how you felt during those events/times?

I have considered this, and one issue is,would I know if I have forgotten things unless someone younger but old enough to remember reminded me.

If I knew then what I know now, I'd go back and do some things differently, I guess.

As for memory - I remember things from very early life like a slide show of still pictures, then starting around age 4 or 5 like little video clips, which get longer as I grow up. I can remember certain dates things happened, what I wore to school, all kinds of things. I can still recite parts of the dialogues from French and German classes from junior high. Play a song from the 70's and I can tell you what grade I was in when it came out, and probably which half of the school year it was. But I just came in here from the kitchen, and I'm not sure whether or not I put the dishes in the dishwasher or left them in the sink. LOL
