Is it every okay to steal something?

When? Why? What? Does monetary value matter? What about *need*? Is it morally acceptable to steal food if you are starving? Is illegal downloading stealing; is it ever morally justifiable? Is plagiarism stealing? Is it worse to steal from someone that is poor than someone that is rich?

Morally unjustifiable, for one, it's goes against two of the nine virtues of my kin, and secondly, I've been stolen from before, and the money missing was needed badly at the time. Never take from one who has worked hard to have what they have. It's not yours, don't touch it.

What about taking an axe or gun from someone likely to kill someone with it? Technically that's stealing too - he or she hasn't committed a crime (yet) but we think they might. And it's their gun or axe and not mine and I've taken it from them. So yes, it's stealing. And yes, I think it can be morally justified.

To me, the only thing that justifies stealing is need. Stealing food when you're hungry or clothes when you're cold and can't afford, it's the better of two evils... what Medusa said.

Here in the UK under the current government, people on benefits are being sanctioned - left with absolutely nothing for weeks - for ridiculous reasons, like being two minutes late for a job centre appointment. They're starving and so they're stealing. That doesn't make it right, but it is understandable.

I'd say that it's wrong in most cases, but if you're starving and will die otherwise, I think stealing food is justifiable.

fun fact, that line in Aladdin is actually a purposeful reference to Les Mis. Because Lea Salonga, the voice of Jasmine, has played both Eponine and Fantine as well

Fun fact. Wolverine could have in fact been Valjean. Wolverine is almost 200 years old by now.
